Chapter 3 of Esther is pretty intense.
Mordecai won't bow down to Haman, so wrath fills him...you know, the one where you want nothing but negativity towards someone who has "wronged" you. REVENGE!!
Haman takes advantage of his position and goes to the king, but doesn't reveal all the facts. He never tells the king that the people he wants to exterminate are Jewish, skewed the idea that all of these people didn't uphold the king's laws (even though it was just Mordecai), told the king these people were rebellious and troublesome, and said they were a danger to the peace and security of the empire so they should be destroyed!
Haman took revenge seriously here, didn't he?
It is easy to sit here and say Haman is a terrible person..which, I sure don't agree with his actions. But ask yourself this question...Have you ever wished bad things for someone? Sometimes, there is a little Haman in all of us! Our pride and our ego can easily get to the best of us! But, we are to act differently...Look at God's word for how your actions SHOULD be..
- Romans 12:17-21 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in sight of all men. If it is possile, as much as depends on you, live peacably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty ,give him drink; for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
- Proverbs 25:21-22 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; for so you will heap coals of fire on his head, nd the Lord will reward you.
- Proverbs 20:22 Do not say, "I will recompense evil" ; Wait on the Lord, and He will save you.
- Matthew 5:38-39 You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." But I tell you not to rsist and evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
Make sure, in all aspects of your life, that LOVE is there..not wrath, not envy, not malice.
